Instructions
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a large bowl, combine flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Gradually add warm water and olive oil, stirring until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Make the Alfredo Sauce:
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and sauté the garlic until fragrant (about 1 minute).
- Add the heavy cream and bring to a gentle simmer, stirring constantly. Gradually whisk in Parmesan cheese until the sauce thickens.
- Season with nutmeg, salt, and pepper to taste. Remove from heat and let cool.
- Prepare the Filling:
- In a large bowl, combine shredded chicken, mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, Alfredo sauce, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. Mix until evenly combined.
- Assemble the Calzones:
- Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3–5 minutes.
- Divide the risen dough into 6 equal portions. Roll each portion into a 6-inch circle on a floured surface.
- Spoon 2–3 tablespoons of the chicken Alfredo filling onto one side of each circle, leaving a border around the edges.
- Fold the dough over the filling to form a half-moon shape. Press the edges firmly to seal, then crimp with a fork for extra security.
- Cook the Calzones:
- Brush the tops of the calzones with olive oil or egg wash. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and garlic powder, if desired.
- Place the calzones in the air fryer basket, making sure they don’t touch. Cook at 375°F for 8–10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crisp.
- Serve:
- Let the calzones cool slightly before serving. Enjoy with marinara or extra Alfredo sauce for dipping.
Notes
- Shortcut Option: Use store-bought pizza dough or crescent roll dough for quicker preparation.
- Make It Spicy: Add red pepper flakes or diced jalapeños to the filling for extra heat.
- Storage: Leftover calzones can be refrigerated for up to 3 days. Reheat in the air fryer for 3–4 minutes at 350°F to restore crispness.
- Customizable Filling: Swap chicken for cooked sausage, pepperoni, or veggies like spinach and mushrooms.
