- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter (cold and cubed)
- 3/4 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup blackberries or other fresh berries
- Fresh mint for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Cut the cold butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in milk gradually to form a soft dough. Do not overmix.
- Shape dough into small dumplings using your hands or a spoon.
- In a deep skillet or saucepan, combine water, brown sugar, and granulated sugar over medium heat. Stir until dissolved.
- Add dumplings to the syrup. Cover and cook for about 10–12 minutes, turning occasionally to ensure even caramelization.
- Uncover and let simmer until the syrup thickens and the dumplings are golden brown on the outside.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Top with blackberries and a drizzle of the remaining syrup. Garnish with mint if desired. Serve warm.

- Best enjoyed fresh but can be stored for up to 2 days.
- Reheat gently with a splash of water to loosen the syrup.
- Use gluten-free flour for a gluten-free version.
- Plant-based butter and milk make it vegan-friendly.
- Frozen berries can be used—thaw and drain before serving.
