Description

Caramelized Dumplings are a luxurious dessert featuring tender dumplings seared to a golden finish, coated in a rich caramel sauce, and crowned with vibrant berries. A beautiful balance of warm, sweet, and tart flavors, this dish is both rustic and elegant.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoons butter, divided
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup blackberries or mixed berries
  • Fresh mint (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, 2 tablespoons butter, and milk until a soft dough forms.
  2. Divide the dough into small portions and gently shape into dumpling rounds.
  3. In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons butter and sear the dumplings on all sides until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add brown sugar, granulated sugar, and heavy cream. Stir over medium heat until the caramel sauce thickens and begins to bubble.
  5. Return the dumplings to the skillet, cooking for a few more minutes to absorb the caramel sauce.
  6. Top with fresh berries and drizzle extra caramel sauce on top. Garnish with fresh mint if desired.
  7. Serve warm for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Use medium heat and stir constantly to prevent burning the caramel.
  • Shape dumplings ahead of time and refrigerate until ready to cook.
  • Use any combination of berries based on preference or availability.
  • Reheat leftovers gently with a splash of cream to refresh the sauce.
  • For a gluten-free version, use a gluten-free flour blend.
