Scale
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups old-fashioned oats
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup caramel sauce or soft caramel candies melted with 2 tablespoons cream
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt (optional, for topping)
- 1/2 cup sliced almonds
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang for easy removal.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt.
- Stir in melted butter until crumbly and well combined.
- Press about 2/3 of the mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan to form the crust. Bake for 10 minutes.
- Meanwhile, in a small bowl, mix caramel sauce with vanilla extract until smooth.
- Remove crust from the oven and pour caramel mixture evenly over the crust.
- Sprinkle sliced almonds over the caramel, then top with remaining crumble mixture.
- Bake for an additional 20–25 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.
- Cool completely in the pan, then lift out and cut into bars.
- Sprinkle with sea salt if desired before serving.
Notes
- For homemade caramel, melt soft caramel candies with a splash of cream over low heat.
- Bars will firm up as they cool, making them easier to cut.
- Use toasted almonds for extra flavor and crunch.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days.
