Description

A fun and easy twist on traditional lasagna, using bow tie pasta and a rich, cheesy meat sauce for a comforting meal.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 12 oz bow tie pasta (farfalle)
  • 1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  • Cook the Pasta:
    • Boil bow tie pasta in salted water until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  • Prepare the Meat Sauce:
    • In a large skillet, cook ground beef or sausage over medium heat until browned.
    • Add onion and garlic, cooking until softened. Drain excess grease.
    • Stir in marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Make the Ricotta Mixture:
    • In a small bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, and half of the Parmesan cheese.
  • Assemble the Dish:
    • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • In a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, layer half of the cooked pasta.
    • Spread half of the meat sauce over the pasta, followed by half of the ricotta mixture.
    • Repeat layers and top with mozzarella cheese and remaining Parmesan cheese.
  • Bake and Serve:
    • Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes.
    • Remove foil and bake for another 10 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
    • Garnish with parsley and serve hot.

Notes

    • For a spicier version, use spicy Italian sausage.
    • You can substitute cottage cheese for ricotta if preferred.
