- 1 1/2 lbs ground beef (80/20 preferred)
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp olive oil or butter (for cooking)
- For the Gravy:
- 8 oz mushrooms, sliced (cremini or baby bella)
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp fresh thyme (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, garlic, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined. Form into 4 oval-shaped patties.
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Brown patties on both sides (about 3–4 minutes per side). Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add sliced mushrooms and onions. Sauté until golden and softened, about 7–8 minutes.
- Sprinkle flour over vegetables and stir to coat. Cook for 1 minute.
- Gradually stir in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer and cook until thickened, about 3–5 minutes.
- Return patties to the skillet. Cover and simmer over low heat for 15–20 minutes, or until patties are cooked through.
- Garnish with fresh thyme if desired and serve hot with mashed potatoes or egg noodles.

- Swap beef for ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
- Add a splash of cream to the gravy for extra richness.
- Use shallots in place of onions for a more delicate flavor.
- Serve over mashed cauliflower for a low-carb option.
