Description

Bobby Flay Salisbury Steak is a gourmet take on a comfort food classic. This dish features flavorful ground beef patties simmered in a rich mushroom and onion gravy, perfect for pairing with mashed potatoes or buttery egg noodles.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef (80/20 preferred)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or butter (for cooking)
  • For the Gravy:
  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced (cremini or baby bella)
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, garlic, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined. Form into 4 oval-shaped patties.
  2. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Brown patties on both sides (about 3–4 minutes per side). Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add sliced mushrooms and onions. Sauté until golden and softened, about 7–8 minutes.
  4. Sprinkle flour over vegetables and stir to coat. Cook for 1 minute.
  5. Gradually stir in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer and cook until thickened, about 3–5 minutes.
  6. Return patties to the skillet. Cover and simmer over low heat for 15–20 minutes, or until patties are cooked through.
  7. Garnish with fresh thyme if desired and serve hot with mashed potatoes or egg noodles.

Notes

  • Swap beef for ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
  • Add a splash of cream to the gravy for extra richness.
  • Use shallots in place of onions for a more delicate flavor.
  • Serve over mashed cauliflower for a low-carb option.
  • Reheat with a splash of broth to keep the gravy smooth.
