Description

Blueberry Cream Cheese French Toast Casserole is a rich, make-ahead breakfast dish made with cubes of bread, swirls of sweetened cream cheese, juicy blueberries, and a cinnamon-vanilla custard. Perfect for holidays or brunch gatherings.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 loaf French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes (about 10 cups)
  • 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, cubed
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Spread half of the bread cubes in the dish.
  2. Scatter cream cheese cubes and blueberries evenly over the bread layer.
  3. Top with the remaining bread cubes.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cream, sugar, maple syrup, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt.
  5. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread, pressing gently to help absorb the liquid.
  6. Cover and refrigerate overnight, or at least 4 hours.
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Let the casserole sit at room temperature for 30 minutes before baking.
  8. Bake uncovered for 45–50 minutes, or until the top is golden and the center is set.
  9. Let cool slightly before serving. Top with powdered sugar or additional maple syrup if desired.

Notes

  • Can be assembled the night before for a stress-free morning.
  • Use day-old bread for best texture.
  • Substitute strawberries or raspberries for a different flavor variation.
