Description

Blackened Cod with Garlic Butter and Fries is a hearty, flavorful dish featuring spice-crusted cod fillets, a rich garlic butter drizzle, and crispy homemade fries. A satisfying and easy meal that feels gourmet.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cod fillets
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
  • 4 medium potatoes
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste (for fries)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cut potatoes into wedges or matchsticks. Toss with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Spread evenly on the baking sheet and bake for 25–30 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  3. While fries bake, pat cod fillets dry.
  4. In a small bowl, combine paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, oregano, cayenne, salt, and pepper.
  5. Rub the seasoning mix onto both sides of each cod fillet.
  6. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add a small amount of butter or oil and sear cod fillets for 3–4 minutes per side until cooked through and flaky.
  7. In a small saucepan, melt remaining butter over low heat. Add minced garlic and cook until fragrant. Stir in lemon juice and remove from heat.
  8. Serve blackened cod with a drizzle of garlic butter and crispy fries on the side. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.

Notes

  • Use a cast-iron skillet for best searing results.
  • Thaw frozen cod completely and pat dry to avoid excess moisture.
  • Adjust cayenne for more or less heat.
  • Reheat fries in the oven or air fryer to maintain crispiness.
