Scale
- 2 ripe but firm bananas, halved or sliced
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/3 cup toasted pecans
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract or 1 tbsp dark rum
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
- Vanilla ice cream, pancakes, or waffles for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Stir and cook until the sugar dissolves and the mixture begins to bubble.
- Place banana slices cut-side down into the sauce. Cook for 1–2 minutes until lightly caramelized.
- Gently flip the bananas and cook the other side for another 1–2 minutes.
- Add vanilla extract or rum and stir gently. If flambéing with rum, ignite carefully and let the flame subside.
- Add toasted pecans and spoon sauce over them to coat.
- Serve immediately over ice cream, pancakes, waffles, or enjoy on its own.
Notes
- Use walnuts or almonds in place of pecans if preferred.
- Try with coconut ice cream or over French toast for variety.
- Flambé with rum for a restaurant-style presentation.
- Ripe but firm bananas work best to prevent mushiness.
- Toast pecans in a dry skillet for 2–3 minutes to enhance flavor.
