Ingredients

Units Scale
For the fritters:
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • 1 cup finely chopped apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
For the glaze:
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Prepare the batter: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
  • Mix wet ingredients: In another bowl, whisk the milk, egg, vanilla extract, and melted butter. Pour this into the dry ingredients and stir until combined.
  • Fold in apples: Gently fold the chopped apples into the batter.
  • Heat the oil: In a deep pan or pot, heat about 2 inches of oil to 350°F (175°C).
  • Fry the fritters: Drop tablespoon-sized scoops of batter into the hot oil. Fry for about 2-3 minutes per side or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel.
  • Make the glaze: Whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Glaze the fritters: While warm, dip each fritter in the glaze or drizzle it over them.
  • Serve & enjoy!

Notes

  • Best served fresh, but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
  • If the batter feels too thick, add a splash of milk.
  • You can dust with powdered sugar instead of using the glaze for a lighter option.
